Creating a mural, the Wall Nuts way

Commercial Wall Mural // Murals and media walls

To give you an idea of how we create a mural, we’ve laid out a typical (but not exclusive) client journey with Wall Nuts.

They say the only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment, and the same applies when creating a bespoke wall mural.

Regardless of why you’ve decided to install a mural, you want to ensure that the company overseeing the work is passionate about design and committed to carrying your project from blank canvas to finished piece.

Here at Wall Nuts, we have over 30 years of experience in illustration, design, and marketing and take enormous pride in creating something visually stunning that influences emotions and drives results.

To give you an idea of how this can be achieved, we’ve laid out a typical (but not exclusive) client journey with Wall Nuts.

The pre-design phase: Understanding your needs, wants, and vision

Part 1: Initial conversation and consultation

First things first, it’s time for introductions.

No matter where you first discovered Wall Nuts (through social media, a networking event, or our website), this is your opportunity to let us know a little bit about you. Most ideally, we’d like to know who you are, what company you’re from, and that you’re interested in having a wall mural installed. In return, we’ll tell you more about us and book a discovery call or face-to-face meeting.

The goal of this meeting will be to gain a better understanding on some of the following areas:

  • Your company: who you are, what you do, and your company mantra
  • Your initial thoughts and ideas on the mural (if you’ve made it that far)
  • Your goals and objectives: what influenced your decision to install a mural and what you want the mural to achieve
  • Your target audience and market: who your mural is aimed at and how you’d like them to feel when they see it
  • Any specific details: what must be included, what you’d like to see included, and what you do not want to see included

This initial ‘fact-finding’ stage is, arguably, the most crucial part of the entire process. It allows us to find out what will work before we put pen to paper.

We’ll also use this time to look at the space available and take measurements and photographs of the walls where the mural is likely to be installed.

Part 2: The proposal and quotation

The next step of the pre-design phase is to pull everything together.

Based on our initial discussion and site survey, we’ll create a tailored proposal and quotation, which will likely include:

  • A mood board of ideas, including colour schemes, layouts, and themes
  • Previous examples that share similar characteristics to your own – this should give you a better indication of how your mural is likely to look once completed
  • Advice on what finish and materials are the best for the job

We’ll also aim to provide you with something that you may not have thought about before, something that fits the brief and gives you the desired results in a different way.

Once you’ve received your proposal, the decision lays firmly with you. We want you to be sure that this design lends itself to your available space and works to uplift, refresh, and stimulate your target audience in the right way.

If you’re happy to go ahead, simply accept the quotation and our designers will set to work transforming your blank wall into a bespoke mural.

The design phase: Where the magic happens

Part 1: The design

Proposal and quotation accepted, it’s time to create some magic! This is our favourite part of the entire process here at Wall Nuts, as it’s where our talented team can really let their creative juices flow.

Because each mural is unique, your experience during this design phase can differ depending on which style of mural you’ve opted for.

If you’ve chosen a photograph mural, we’ll reach out to one of our professional photographers who will set about capturing the perfect image. If you’ve opted for an illustrated or designed mural, our talented artists and illustrators will get to work turning a blank canvas into something unique and visually stunning. Think pen and ink drawings with detailed shading, beautiful layers of watercolour that command light and dark, acrylics that give a wonderful vibrancy, and even digital illustrations.

Some clients will reach out to us about the prospect of transforming their own design into a mural. If this is the case, we’ll organise to have the piece photographed in a way that will ensure the impact isn’t lost when blown up on a large scale.

Part 2: The finishing touches

When it comes to murals, we strive to create a truly unique work of art that expresses your brand’s identity, and we do this by fully immersing ourselves in your company for the duration of the project.

We want you to feel as though we are working ‘with’ you, not ‘for’ you, and that we are more than just a supplier; that we are an extension of your team. We’ll therefore keep you posted on the progress of your design and seek your approval every step of the way.

If at any stage of the design process you’re not 100% happy, that’s OK. We will continue to work with you until we are both confident that the piece will leave a lasting impression on anyone who sees it.

The post-design phase: Ensuring the ‘wow’ factor

You might think that, once the design work has been signed off, our work here is done. But that’s certainly not the case.

As our name suggests, we truly are nuts about walls, and we like to ensure that the ‘wow’ factor of a beautifully designed mural isn’t lost by poor printer quality or clumsy application. That’s why we provide printing and installation services in addition to concept and design work.

When, and only when, the final design has been approved by yourself, we’ll send this off to one of our specialist wallpaper printers, all of which have been hand sourced for the quality they provide. We’ll then be in touch to arrange an installation date at a time that suits you. For many offices, this is during an evening or weekend when our expert installers can work their magic without interrupting your employees.

Once your wall mural has been installed or, in some cases, painted directly onto the wall, all that’s left to do is to sit back, relax, and enjoy your uplifted office space.
