Murals and media walls // Schools and education
Already having given lots of thought and investment to their internal space, the school felt it was time to focus on their outdoor spaces (particularly playgrounds and staff specific areas).
From a design perspective we were asked to consider that they wanted their pupils to feel welcome and to really give them a sense of belonging whenever they were out in the playgrounds. Not forgetting the staff area too, they wanted the give them an area that transformed them from school in to the countryside … a bit of escapism for when they are on their break.
Equally the project would be a great showcase for them as a special educational needs school whilst providing a great sense of community.
The site visit consisted of a walk around the playgrounds, discussing which wall(s) they had in mind and which we thought would be the best option(s), assessing the feasibility of access equipment needed, etc. Listening to their needs, we wanted to establish what they were looking to achieve and any ideas they had at that point. With different age ranges having different areas to play in, the designs had to be age specific and the Fairfield team provided us with their early ideas. We then got to work designing all three walls. One by one, they were sent over for feedback, and then any adjustments were made accordingly. When we had final approval it was time to get painting! Over a number of days, our team recreated the three designs on the chosen school walls. This was all carried out in the school holiday time to avoid any disruption and the results speak for themselves.
Both pupils, staff and the school leadership team were thrilled with the designs. What a difference they make. We turned 3 blank walls into something special for all to enjoy daily. And what a showcase for the school itself. A great result!

The artwork is fantastic and the pupils love it. I wouldn’t hesitate in using Wall Nuts again in the future, and would strongly recommend them to others.
