The Brief

Before the transformation

The idea was to create a mural that would make people stop, pay attention and encourage them to want to go into the shopping arcade.

Thus creating a higher level of footfall and custom for the shop owners that trade from The Arcade.

The Process

We met the client on site in Ripon to discuss the project and their vision. It was clear that things had become a little tired and were in need of a revamp to attract more local and visiting customers to venture into The Arcade to shop.

Once we had taken the full brief, photographs and measured the wall we set to work designing the mural around the theme of everything that Ripon has to offer in terms of tourism. This included well known landmarks such as Ripon Cathedral as well as local traditions like the town Hornblower.

The designs were done and approved by the client within a few weeks. However due to bad weather and hold ups with other on-site trades our scheduled work on-site kept being pushed back. Which in the end saw us then contending with the unprecedented Coronovirus pandemic.

Our work had to be put on hold for a number of months and when we were able to pick it back up we found out that circumstances being as they were in terms of shops just having being reopened, we would be unable to complete a direct to wall mural.

Always willing to adapt to circumstance change we produced the mural off site onto board and once completed this was erected into place and we put the finishing touches to it. That way, we had less time on-site and less disruption for the shoppers and shop owners.

The Result

A bright, eye-catching mural that attracts attention and highlights The Arcade’s presence. It was really well received by the locals and serves as a great backdrop for photo opportunities, which when posted over social media act as an advertisement for Ripon and the Arcade itself, This is exactly what our customer required and to have been able to deliver that in such challenging.
