The Brief
Following recent redecoration of the children’s ward the client was looking for a wall mural based on the ‘Where’s Wally?’ books. It needed to display lots of things for children to find; items to count; funny things to find; motivational words and include items that appealed to all ages and genders. The wall mural was for the ward treatment room to support children whilst having painful or unpleasant procedures with the specific aim of helping staff and parents engage and distract children worried about having treatment.
The Process
The client had a good vision of what they wanted to achieve with the wall mural and provided a list of ‘must-have finds’ whilst giving us artistic licence to add everything else! From there, we created this eye-catching doodle design to give staff and parents the opportunity to create multiple distraction games for the children. Due to this being a very high traffic area and needing to pass infection control criteria we advised suitable materials with a hard wearing and wipeable finish.
The Result
This was a very rewarding project and really highlights the power of wall art to engage and tell a story.
The team at Wall Nuts were lovely to work with and included everything on our wish list, plus so much more. Their designs are great, really child friendly and humorous. Everyone comments on the wallpaper when they see it and I have had other wards ask where we got it from. It has proven to be a great distraction too, definitely doing its job, even for families just sitting in the treatment room waiting for a bed to become available as they all seem to just intuitively start to discuss what they can see on the wall. We love it!
